The #1 mistake online shops make with their July 4th sale...

If you are one of the many thousands of online shops that participate in July 4th sales and promotions for your small business then this e-mail is a must read!

Independence Day has quickly become a popular shopping holiday with customers looking for sales on their favorite products and services. This can be a great chance for you, the business owner, to take the opportunity to move stock off the shelves, over deliver to current loyal customers and acquire new first-time customers! 

Many well-meaning shop owners however make one fatal flaw with their July 4th promotions...

They limit the sale to the day of July 4th instead of building the sale around their customers online shopping habits.

What do I mean?

To avoid being "too salesy" or having to self-promote "too much," creative business owners will often plan all of their sale promotion for either the day of July 4th or the July 4th weekend (July 4th is a Tuesday this year).

So what's the problem? It's three-fold.

1) A one-day sale does not give your customers enough time to check their e-mail and actually hear about your promotion.

Hopefully, on July 4th your customer is out having picnics and enjoying their friends and family - not sitting on their phone checking e-mail and online shopping! If you limit your promotion to this one day then they may not see your sale until it is too late.

2) You must take into consideration their buying habits and your shop analytics.

Do your customers tend to purchase from their phones or at a desktop computer? Do they tend to purchase on week days or weekends? Do they shop during the day or in the evening? Don't make assumptions or guesses on this - you need to know the facts! Regardless of the date on the calendar, your sales should be built around this important data.

3) Whether your product or service is business related or a personal/lifestyle item should influence when you run your promotion.  

Personal items may sell best during your customer's evening or weekend, while business related products or services will most likely sell best when your customer is actually working (and therefore thinking about work!) vs. during evenings and weekends. 

And remember, sales and promotions are not sleazy ways of siphoning dollars out of your client.  

They are a way that you can better serve current clients with generosity and acquire new clients by giving them the opportunity to try your product at a rare lower price.

These images have been designed to become a part of your branding just like a logo or font choice.

As an entrepreneur yourself, you know how frustrating and discouraging it can be when people misuse, steal, giveaway or alter your work. With that in mind, please don't change the colors or move the props around - it just doesn't look as good (and infringes on the usage terms)!  

Feel free to crop the image any way that you want and overlay it with text or designs to help you to promote your brand and sell more products!  

By purchasing the image you are agreeing not to give the image (or a part of the image) away to anyone else in ANY way even if you turned it into a beautiful free e-book cover, or snazzy desktop screen savor.

It would also be just plain wrong to re-sell the image in any form such as turning it into an art print or including it in a website or other template design.  

Lastly, using an SC Stockshop image to sell your styling course, webinar or other styling related training is sort of false advertising. Show them the styling that YOU have done so that they know exactly what they are in for and can get excited!  This is not meant to scare you.
